Mandi Rimdu Festival Trek

Mandi Rimdu is a Buddhist festival specific to the Sherpa community of Everest region. The  Festival celebrates victory of Buddhism over Bon-Po religion. It starts from the first day of the tenth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, usually between October and November and lasts for 19 days. In Khumbu, the festival is observed at Tengboche and Chiwang monasteries.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu.

Our Travel representative will pick you up at the Tribhuvan International Airport ( Kathmandu) and transfer to the hotel by private car. The rest of the day is for leisure.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing.

Today you will explore major attractions of Kathmandu valley. Our city guide will meet you at your hotel then start sightseeing tour. The observation sites include Swoyambhunath aka the monkey temple; Boudhanath, the holy shrine of Tibetan Buddhists; Pashupatinath, the largest Hindu religious complex in Nepal and Hanumandhoka Durbar square, one of the medieval royal plazas of the valley.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding.

After you have your breakfast, you will drive to the airport to embark for Lukla. The breathtaking views of mountains and rivers will make the approximately 40 minutes flight remarkable before landing on Tenzing-Hillary airport, named after the pioneer invaders of the Everest. After necessary arrangements/rearrangements you will start heading towards Phakding which is reached at about 4 hours of moderate walking.

Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar.

Following a trail through pine forest and crossing few suspension bridges, you will arrive at a small settlement called Benkar which is the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. After necessary formalities, you will continue towards Namche Bazaar, the major market of Everest region, which teems with shops and hotels of diverse standards.

Day 05: Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar.

It is acclimatization day in Namche so you have enough time to explore the life style of locals. Short hiking can be utilization of the time. High altitude can be harmful if we ignore resting. It is necessary to adjust your body with high elevation. Visit Sagarmatha National Park and hiking to Everest View Hotel. You can view the world’s amazing panoramic scenes of the earth and get chance to observe uniquely different Sherpa Culture.

Day 06: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche.

After breakfast in Namche, we begin today trek. The trekking trail leads to Tengboche. The wonderful view of Mt. Everest and Mt. Aba Dablam is breath stopping for you. These giant mountains seem to be so near from there. If you are lucky, Mani Rimdu festival in the monastery gives everlasting experience of the dancing of monks wearing masks. The festival is very important of the region.

Day 07: Festival observation at Tengboche.

The main attraction of Mani Rimdhu festival is masked dance or Chham performed by the monks. The dance recounts the story of religious triumph of positive forces over demons that are subdued, dispelled or converted into Protectors. The dance is also said to convey various Buddhist teachings. Although chiefly a monastic festival, it holds equal significance to the laymen (locals) who participate in the fete with a great enthusiasm.
Another event of the festival is Wong or the empowerment offered by the Head Lama of the monastery. The abbot offers sacred pills for prosperity, health and happiness to everyone attending the festival.
The fire rituals or Jinsak are performed in the courtyard of the monastery after most of the laymen have returned. So, this is basically a complete monastic ritual. The monks make an offering to    Agni (The fire God).

Day 08: Tengboche to Monjo .

After having your breakfast, you will descend along the easy and dusty route towards Dudhkoshi River. Crossing the river, you will progress towards Namche Bazaar where you will have your lunch. From here, you will climb down and cross a couple of rivers before arriving at Monjo.

Day 09: Monjo to Lukla .

The trail crosses a few rivers before descending towards Phakding. From Phakding, you need to climb steeply to reach Lukla.

Day 10: Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.

On this day, fly to Kathmandu in the morning. This short and scenic flight possibly makes you feel nostalgic because of the glimpses of snowy mountains through private window of plane. You will be transferred to hotel where you either have leisure time or you may catch the last moments exploring the sights of Kathmandu. Shopping in market is another best option. In the evening, we have a celebration dinner together.

Day 11: Departure to Airport.

As it is the last day, we have to bid goodbye to the guest as visit in Nepal comes to the end for this time. If you have time enough, you can have sightseeing and purchasing the token of love from Nepal. Before 3 hours of scheduled flight, our representatives will take you to the TIA. We hope you will be planning for another adventure-trip while you are on returning back to your homeland. You can extend your Nepal stay if you have time and desire too.

Nepal Visa fee you may obtain easily in Kathmandu airport.

International airfare to and from Kathmandu.

Extra night Hotel accommodation in Kathmandu because of early arrival, late departure, early return from mountain (due to any reason) than the scheduled itinerary

All meals in Kathmandu and trekking (and also in the case of early return from mountain than the scheduled itinerary)

All expenses in mountain over than Scheduled because sometime can be stuck in mountain due to bad weather delay flight or any reason.

Travel and rescue insurance.

Personal expenses (phone calls, laundry, bar bills, battery recharge, extra porters, bottle or boiled water, hot shower etc).
